California court says UC must reconsider discriminatory hiring policy against students without legal US status

The California Supreme Court has upheld a ruling requiring the University of California (UC) to reconsider its policy banning students without legal US status from campus jobs. The court declined to review UC’s appeal, leaving intact an earlier decision calling the policy discriminatory. UC officials warned the move poses legal risks, while supporters said it opens opportunities for undocumented students. The university must now re-evaluate the policy under state law while managing federal funding concerns.
